Romantic Element Reviewer
Here you will find Reviews of not only Romance Books but
all books with a Romantic Element in them.
Author Name:  Lynn Sterling
Book Title(s):   Journey to Diir

1.        Why did you decide to become an Author?  I’ve always been an avid reader and had
this story kind of floating around in my head.   Finally, while working up in Calgary on a film,
I casually mentioned the plot line to my staff and they inspired me to put it down on paper.

2.        How long have you been writing?  I wrote Journey to Diir almost 7 years ago, but it
sat in a drawer until a friend that I worked with on a film in Denver gave me an intro to Rosa
Romance.

3.        What was your first book?  Journey to Diir is the 1st of the trilogy.

4.        How do you come up with your characters?  Favorite Character(s) to write about?  I’
ve been lucky enough to work all over the US and Canada and the film industry is always
giving me interesting characters to use.  I love to write about strong women and men that
challenge both themselves and those around them to improve not only their lives but the
lives of others.

5.        Do you have a set schedule when you write or do you write when you are feeling
creative?
When I wrote Journey I was between projects and wrote 10 – 12 hours a day.
Now, since I’m also working full time, I have to limit my writing to the weekends.  Sundays
are hard since I tend to lose track of time and can’t afford to write until the wee hours of the
morning.  Although I can set a schedule to start, stopping seems to be a problem for me.
Hmm, isn’t that a good thing?

6.        How do you come up with your plots?  I think that my plots center around making the
human race into what we all hope that we can become.  Of course, having romance along
the way is mandatory!

7.        How long did it take you to get your first book published?  Since my book didn’t fit
into a traditional ‘romance’ or ‘science fiction’ format, I couldn’t get anyone to take a 2nd
look.  They either wanted me to drop the romance or edit the romance to a traditional one-
on-one relationship.  I wouldn’t change the book, so I put it in a drawer and waited.  Once I
was introduced to Rosa Romance, it only took about 4 months from start to finish.

8.        How did you go about choosing your Publisher or Agent?  It’s really a matter of
trust.  Even knowing that I could be published, I had to believe that my publisher
understood my book and would protect the story before I committed.  It was worth the wait.
All of the people Rosa Romance have been great partners.

9.        Do you feel a calling toward a specific Genre or Style of writing?  I’ve always loved
science fiction, but sometimes the hard-core science fiction can be a little dry.  Adding the
romance seemed, at least to me, to be the perfect fit.

10.         Who is your favorite author? And what’s your favorite book?  Wow, way too many
to choose one!  I love mysteries with Sue Henry, Dana Stabenow and romance from Linda
Howard and sci-fi from Niven, Clark and the masses.  My favorite book is ‘Lucifer’s
Hammer’ written by Pournelle/Niven.

11.         Do you brainstorm? Do you use outlines?  I do use outlines and recently I’ve
started to write mini-scenes when the mood strikes.  When I set down to write, I review the
notes (sometimes on post-its) and the inspiration flows from there.

12.         Do you work better with paper and pen or on the computer? My world is on a
computer.  I type faster than I write and it’s also about the visual of seeing the typed page
unfold.

13.         What helps get you in the mood to write?  Thinking of all of those wonderful times
that I’ve had working on films.  There have been some interesting, fun, exhausting,
romantic, amazing and challenging experiences with cast and crew in some great places.
Being on location tends to bring a crew together for a brief time, but builds life-long
relationships.  There’s never a dull moment.

14.         Any guilty pleasures?  Oh, yes!  I think that men are glorious creatures and
chocolate should be a food group.

15.         Favorite inspirations?  The mountains and men that look in your eyes and take
your breath away.

Thank you so very much for your time!
