Eleven-year-old Theodosia Throckmorton is used to being around Egyptian artifacts in her parent’s museum. She has the ability to sense dark spells around the items and is able to diffuse them with the help of her cat, Isis.
At a reception party, one mummy is unraveled. Theodosia recognizes him as Mr. Tetley of the British Museum, who she’d last seen at an Egyptian tomb. This means only one thing. The Serpents of Chaos are back.
Soon other mummies from all over London start showing up in her parent’s museum, making her father a prime suspect. It’s up to Theodosia to unravel the mystery before her father ends up in jail. But in the meantime she has to dodge her grandmother’s attempts to make her a lady, a governess who likes to pinch, and the attentions of some men who think she’s someone else. Theodosia finds she must rely on her skills, some friends, and her knowledge of Egyptian spells if she’s to stop an evil conspiracy that wants to bring Britain down. But will this be enough?
I enjoyed reading the further adventures of Theodosia. This story picks right up where Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos ended. Think Nancy Drew meets Indiana Jones at the turn of the 20th century. Theodosia is resourceful and bright on her quest to figure out the mystery behind the mummies and the Staff of Osiris. This story is sure to appeal to those who love a good adventure mystery and an independent heroine. Egyptian mythology is a big plus too.
R.L. LaFevers is the author of Werewolf Rising, Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos and other fantasy books.
